Azad Hind Express ( Howrah to Pune) to halt in Bhandara Road:

It has been decided that from 14th august, 2008, Howrah to Pune Azad Hind Express will halt at Bhandara Road, which is under Nagpur Division of South East Central Railway. 2130 Azad Hind Express would stop for two minutes at Bhandara Road around 14:19 hours and 2129 Azad Hind Express would stop at 11:07 hours.

Konkan Railway to run special trains in between Ahmedabad and Madgaon:

Konkan Railway Corporation has decided to run Ganpati special trains in between Ahmedabad and Madgaon, in order to clear extra rush of travelers during the festive time. It would run on 30th August, 1st September, 7th September and 9th September. The train would start from Ahmedabad at 14:10 hours and reach Madgaon at 13:30 hours, the next day. It would halt at Surat, Vadodara, Bhiwandi, Vasai road, Panvel, Mangaon, Roha and Veer.

B. C. Khanduri, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has announced free travel facilities for women in the state on the Raksha Bandhan Day. The women of Uttarakhand can travel free of cost in the transport buses that ply on state roadway. This was declared by the Chief Minister in a rally on 23rd July, 2008, which was organized by the women of Uttarakhand.

Air India has announced special free baggage allowance for the students traveling to Far East, West and South Asian countries by Air India flights. This facility would be available for the students from October 31st, 2008. It has been decided in order to promote student travel by Air India flights.

Built by Larsen and Toubro, the 10-km long flyover on the National Highway (NH)-1 (earlier called Grand Trunk road), one of the busiest highway stretches in the country, was inaugurated Wednesday, 16th July, by Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping T.R. Baalu and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The approximately Rs.4 billion flyover will cut across Panipat enabling an easier access to and from Delhi to north Indian states of India. Although the motorists will have to incur a toll to use the highway but it will make the travel to and from Delhi much smoother and faster.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp Ltd (IRCTC) Wednesday inaugurated Ginger Rail Yatri Niwas, a budget hotel for the railway passengers:

IRCTC renovated the Rail Yatri Niwas in alliance with Roots Corp Ltd (RCL), which manages a chain of budget hotels in India, and renamed it. RCL has invested about Rs.105 billion ($2.5 billion) to restore the hotel. RLC, a wholly-owned auxiliary of Indian Hotels Co Ltd, is already managing 13 budget hotels in the Indian subcontinent and 18 more are under way.

Kingfisher Airlines, one of India’s major domestic carriers, will initiate its international service with daily flights to Europe and Southeast Asia by Sep 3 and the US:

Round-the-clock flight services from Bangalore and Mumbai to London and from Mumbai to Hong Kong and Singapore are to commence from Aug 31-Sep 3. The India-to-London flights will reach London around 2.30 p.m. GMT, and the return flights will be overnight flights starting around 10 p.m. GMT. An exclusive non-stop air service from Bangalore to San Francisco is intended for September or October, along with a flight service to New York, either non-stop or one-stop.

Jet-JetLite and Kingfisher-Deccan have increased fuel cess by Rs 100-200, after nearly a fortnight from when the oil marketing PSUs increased the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices by 4.3 per cent on June 30. For distance up to 750 km, the surcharge has increased by Rs 100 from Rs 2,250 to Rs 2,350, while for distance more than 750 km, the surcharge has increased by Rs 200 from Rs 2,900 to Rs 3,100. With the newest hike, flying out from the city of Delhi will now cost at least Rs 6,500 on a full service carrier.

Air India Express (AIE) is about to launch daily flights in between Kuwait and Kozhikode which is scheduled to commence from the mid of July. The timings are given below:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday:

  • Depart from Karippur at 18:05 hrs and reach Kuwait at 23:05 hrs local time. It will operate via Cochin and Sharjah. While returning, it will depart from Kuwait at 00:05 hrs and reach Karippur at 10:10 hrs local time, via Cochin and Sharjah.

  • Tuesdays and Saturdays:

  • Depart from Karippur at 19:35 hrs and reach Kuwait at 23:05 hrs local time via Sharjah. On its return, depart from Kuwait at 00:05 hrs and reach Karippur at 08:45 hrs local time, the day next.

  • Thursdays and Sundays:

  • Depart from Karippur at 18:05 hrs and reach Kuwait at 23:05 hrs local time. While coming back, depart from Kuwait at 00:05 hrs and reach Calicut at 10:10 hrs local time, the next day. It will operate via Mangalore and Sharjah.

Chairman of Competition Commission of India, Vinod Dhall, has stated that the aviation industry cannot decide on the minimum airfare of any airlines. The higher official of the regulatory body under union commerce ministry said that the airlines can deal with issues regarding hike in price of aviation fuel but cannot decide the minimum airfare as it could affect the interest of the passengers. The aviation industry reacted strongly to Mr. Dhall's statement and held the big oil companies for increasing the price of aviation fuel.
